Things to know

Guests must be at least 8 years old. Closed-toe shoes with rubber soles are required for all participants. Sandals, flip-flops, and high heels are not permitted. Guests should be able to walk 1.5 to 2 miles over uneven terrain, including creek crossings and light bouldering over rocks. The trail is designated as easy, but sections may be challenging for guests with limited mobility. Dress in layers, as desert temperatures can change quickly. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and apply sunscreen before the tour. Dogs are not permitted in the Indian Canyons. A minimum of 4 guests is required to operate this tour. Complimentary street parking is available nearby. After check-in, you board a classic open-air Jeep Scrambler and head south through Palm Springs toward the Indian Canyons.

Andreas Canyon Trailhead

The Jeep delivers you to Andreas Canyon Trailhead, where the main hiking portion of your tour begins. This easy 1-mile loop follows the banks of Andreas Creek through the world's second-largest California fan palm oasis. Hundreds of towering Washingtonia filifera palms rise from the canyon floor, their shaggy skirts rustling overhead while the creek flows steadily alongside the trail. Your guide pauses at ancient bedrock mortars near the trailhead entrance, stone depressions where the Cahuilla people ground seeds, nuts, and mesquite pods for centuries. As you walk deeper into Andreas Canyon Trailhead, the trail crosses the creek in several places, requiring light bouldering over smooth rocks and small boulders. More than 150 plant species thrive within a half-mile radius of the trail, including sycamores, cottonwoods, willows, and a variety of cacti, and your guide identifies them along the way, explaining how the Cahuilla used each plant for food, medicine, or daily life.
