That iconic drive through the avenue of moss-draped live oak trees sets the tone for everything that follows, and most visitors leave feeling like it was one of the best stops on their Charleston itinerary. The grounds are immaculately kept, the flower gardens are genuinely beautiful, and the all-inclusive ticket covers a solid range of tours and presentations that together paint a full picture of the property's layered history. The standout for many visitors is the Gullah cultural presentation and the preserved slave cabins, which are described as moving, educational, and handled with real care by knowledgeable staff. The house tour, however, tends to get mixed feedback. Access is limited to just a few rooms, and some visitors feel it covers relatively recent history rather than the full arc of the plantation's story. If the interior of the mansion is your main draw, it's worth going in with tempered expectations, but for history lovers and photography enthusiasts, the overall experience more than delivers.
Beautiful plantation full of history. The gardens were gorgeous. Ed was an amazing guide through the house. Be sure to ride the tractor/wagon to see all the fields.
