Maui Sailing Canoe offers a warm, authentic way to experience the Wailea coast through Native Hawaiian owned and family-operated adventures. Since 2005, they’ve shared the traditions of ancient Hawaiian sailing, navigation, and ca...
Sage and his crew deliver something genuinely rare on Maui's crowded tourist circuit: an unhurried, intimate time on the water that feels more like going out with a knowledgeable local than joining a guided tour. Departing from Polo Beach on a traditional outrigger canoe, the experience blends sailing, paddling, and snorkeling across two hours, all without the noise and chaos of motorized boats or large group crowds. The snorkeling is consistently excellent, with turtles appearing in nearly every review, plus sightings of octopus, starfish, sea urchins, and colorful reef fish. Sage's storytelling is a recurring highlight too, weaving together Hawaiian history, geology, and personal family stories that give the trip real depth. Families with young kids show up frequently in reviews, and the crew clearly adapts well to different comfort levels, from nervous toddlers to first-time snorkelers to travelers in their 70s. One reviewer mentioned bringing your own water just to be safe, but that was the only practical note worth flagging, and it was minor. Everything else points to a well-run, locally owned operation where the small group size and personal attention are the whole point. If you're looking to get on the water in a way that actually feels connected to the place, this is a strong choice.
Sage is an amazing guide. He is very knowledgeable and provides great stories and history from the area. He made sure we had great conditions and that we saw several turtles and lots of other ocean life. It’s a great family adventure!
