Drake Park sits at the heart of Bend, Oregon, where the Deschutes River curls lazily through manicured lawns, towering ponderosa pines, and the glassy expanse of Mirror Pond. As one of the most iconic green spaces in Central Oregon, Drake Park is where locals gather for picnics, festivals, and slow afternoons by the water, and it is also one of the most scenic launch and landing zones for a paddle along the Deschutes. With this 2.5-hour paddle craft rental, your kayak, paddleboard, or canoe is delivered straight to the river, letting you skip the logistics and focus on the gentle current, the reflections of historic homes on the water, and the leafy backdrop that makes Drake Park feel like a postcard come to life.
From the water, Drake Park reveals a side of Bend you simply cannot see from the sidewalk. Paddle past the willows that lean over the riverbank, watch ducks and geese skim across Mirror Pond, and listen to the soft hum of downtown drifting through the trees. The stretch of river framed by Drake Park is calm and welcoming, ideal for soaking in the views of the Cascade foothills and the colorful canopy that shifts with the seasons. Compared to the swifter sections downstream, this passage feels meditative, with plenty of room to drift, float on your back, or pull up to the grassy shore for a break in the shade of Drake Park's century-old pines.
This experience is perfect for families with kids, first-time paddlers, couples chasing a romantic afternoon, and visitors who want to experience Bend's signature river culture without hauling gear or shuttling vehicles. Photographers will love the light filtering through the trees, while easygoing adventurers will appreciate how effortless it feels to glide right into the heart of town. Whether you finish your paddle with a stroll through Drake Park or a short walk to a riverside cafe, this is the kind of unhurried, scenic outing that captures everything people love about Bend.
Danielle has built something special here with her paddleboard and kayak rental operation. She consistently goes above and beyond with detailed local knowledge, pointing customers toward the best lakes and rivers while offering insider tips on currents, hazards, and even optimal arrival times. First-timers especially appreciate her patience during lessons and equipment tutorials. The gear itself gets high marks for quality and maintenance, whether you're renting SUPs, kayaks, or wetsuits. The rental process is refreshingly smooth and flexible. Danielle accommodates last-minute bookings, responds quickly via text, and meets customers efficiently for pickup and drop-off. She provides all necessary equipment including straps and life jackets. One minor note: the Google Maps address leads to the river drop-off location rather than a physical storefront, so calling ahead helps clarify logistics if you're self-transporting. Her genuine enthusiasm for helping people enjoy Bend's waterways shines through in every interaction, and many customers return year after year specifically because of the personalized service.
Fantastic rental experience with Bend Kayak School! We’ve rented stand-up paddle boards from Danielle and her team for the last two years. We do the self-transport option and SUP in the Cascade Lakes area just west of Bend to miss the crowds and Danielle ensured we had what we needed in terms of equipment, lake recommendations, and directions. She also was very detailed in helping us secure the SUPs to my pickup truck with five SUPs. I highly recommend Bend Kayak School and will definitely use them going forward. Easy and immediate communications always.
