Boat cruise, Captain guide
Explore the creeks and marshes behind Folly Beach as you look for Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and learn about local ecology and history. Cruise to Morris Island to view the Morris Island Lighthouse and search the shore for shells and fossils.
Children on the child rate are required to wear a life jacket. The boat can accommodate a wheelchair, but there is no ramp and your group must help with loading. If you disembark on Morris Island, there is a step down.
Cancellations within 48 hours of your tour are non-refundable. No-shows and late arrivals are not eligible for refunds. Weather cancellations are decided about one hour before departure; if canceled due to unsafe conditions, you can reschedule or receive a full refund.
Bring water, sunglasses or a hat, and sunscreen. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet, and bring a jacket during cooler months.
Arrive 10–15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
There is no long-term parking in front of the shop, and it is limited to drop-off and pick-up within 5 minutes. If you need to park for the duration of your tour, park at the public boat landing and avoid the trailer spaces (they ticket non-trailered vehicles). If the landing is full, you can park on Folly Beach as long as all four tires are off the street and you park with the flow of traffic, unless a sign says otherwise.

The Morris Island Lighthouse stands as one of the most striking sights you can glimpse from the water on a morning dolphin tour aboard the Sea Rose. Rising from the shifting sands at the southern entrance to Charleston Harbor, this historic beacon has weathered hurricanes, shifting shorelines, and more than a century and a half of Lowcountry history. Once anchored firmly on land, the lighthouse now sits offshore, surrounded by water, a haunting and beautiful reminder of how the Carolina coast has been reshaped by tides and time. Seeing the Morris Island Lighthouse from the gentle deck of a small boat at sunrise gives you a perspective most visitors never get.
As the Sea Rose glides through calm morning waters, the Morris Island Lighthouse comes into view in the soft golden light that photographers chase. The salt breeze carries the scent of the marsh, dolphins surface in small pods nearby, and seabirds wheel overhead as the red and white tower reflects on the harbor. Your captain shares the stories behind the lighthouse, from its role guiding ships into Charleston Harbor to the ongoing efforts to preserve it. Unlike crowded mid-day excursions, the morning tour offers stillness, cooler air, and water so glassy that the Morris Island Lighthouse seems to float between sky and sea.
This experience is perfect for early risers, couples looking for a quiet and romantic outing, photographers chasing that first warm light, and families who want a gentle, awe-inspiring introduction to Charleston's coastal heritage. History lovers will appreciate the layered story of the Morris Island Lighthouse, while nature enthusiasts will treasure the chance to watch wild bottlenose dolphins play in the same waters that the lighthouse has guarded for generations. If you want a morning that blends wildlife, history, and the quiet magic of the Lowcountry, a sunrise cruise past the Morris Island Lighthouse aboard the Sea Rose is an unforgettable way to begin the day in Charleston.
With an impressive track record of consistently happy guests, this boat tour operation has clearly mastered the art of showing off Charleston's waterways. The captains, particularly Davis, Will, and Richard, earn praise not just for their piloting skills but for their engaging personalities and deep knowledge of the area. Guests rave about abundant dolphin sightings, including the special treat of watching strand feeding, plus opportunities to hunt for shark teeth and shells at Morris Island. The experience seems flexible enough to work for different occasions, from family outings with young kids to bachelorette parties. Popular offerings include tours to Morris Island Lighthouse and the Outer Banks filming locations, and captains appear genuinely enthusiastic about sharing local wildlife and history. The vibe is relaxed yet attentive, with thoughtful touches like good music playlists adding to the overall enjoyment. It's the kind of tour where repeat customers keep bringing their visiting friends back.
