This historic railroad offers genuine steam train rides through Pennsylvania countryside that visitors consistently praise as a step back in time. The restored coaches are beautiful, the volunteer staff earns regular mentions for being friendly and helpful, and there's a palpable sense of ongoing restoration work that adds to the experience. Regular scenic rides showcase the historic buildings, equipment, and varied terrain with cuts, fills, and rolling hills that transport you to another era. The seasonal Pumpkin Patch Express draws mixed feedback worth considering. While many families rave about the activities at the destination grove (bounce house, mini golf, hayride, and pumpkin decorating), others found the 90-minute stop lacking in substance for adults and the 15-minute ride underwhelming compared to expectations. The destination setup includes food trucks and basic carnival-style games that seem to work better for some families than others. Standard scenic rides appear to deliver more consistently on the heritage railroad experience that makes this place special, with passengers appreciating the historical authenticity and the crew's dedication to preserving this narrow-gauge treasure.
Awesome short line and lots of history to boot. Loved the shop tour and will definitely be back for the trolley tour and rides. It's fantastic that the area has been preserved so very well. Very reminiscent of riding the OC&T back home.
