Explore the Oakland Estuary at your own pace with a 1-hour self-guided rental
1 hour
Paddle, PFD, SUP leash
Launch from Jack London Square and paddle the protected Oakland Estuary. Choose a kayak or SUP and enjoy a self-guided hour on the water.
Bring a government-issued ID and sign a liability waiver; a driver's license is held as a deposit. Minors must be with a parent; minimum age 5 in a double (12 in winter). No alcohol; rentals are weather dependent and late returns incur fees; traditional kayaks require self-rescue training.
What should I wear?
Quick-dry synthetic materials or wool; no cotton.
Will I get wet?
Yes. Water may drip into the kayak or onto the board. Feet and seat areas get wet. Bring an extra layer and a towel; rain gear helps.
Will I fall in?
There is always the potential to fall into the water.
Is there a place to put my stuff in the kayak?
Yes, use a dry bag. Small lockers with zip ties are available; you may bring your own lock.
What will I see out there?
Urban waterfront views, cranes, and perspectives of Oakland and Alameda. Expect resident water birds; harbor seals sometimes pass through.
Where can I kayak?
Within the Oakland Estuary boundary, with routes from Aquatic Park (~1.5 miles RT) to Park Street (~6 miles RT).
Cancel 24 hours or more before the start to receive a refund. No refunds for cancellations within 24 hours, no-shows, or unused time. Rentals may be canceled last minute due to weather or safety conditions.

The staff here clearly knows their stuff and genuinely cares about getting people out on the water safely. Multiple reviewers mention JT and Sou by name, praising their patient instruction style and willingness to go the extra mile, like helping track down hard-to-find gear or rescheduling when water conditions aren't ideal. The equipment gets consistent praise for being well-maintained, and there's a solid selection whether you're renting or shopping for your own kayak or paddleboard. Beyond rentals, they offer lessons that work well for beginners and families with kids, plus they handle repairs and maintenance like drysuit gasket replacements with quick turnaround. The Oakland Estuary location provides calm waters with nice Bay Area views, making it an accessible spot for first-timers to build confidence. One customer had an initial hiccup with an online order that turned out to be a spam folder issue, but the team resolved it quickly once they connected. The genuine passion for paddling sports and commitment to customer care shines through consistently.
