Paddle a clear kayak at night and look for bioluminescence with a certified guide
1.5 hours
Clear kayak, Guide, Safety gear
Launch at Haulover Canal in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and paddle in a tandem clear kayak on a guided bioluminescent tour. Choose your date and time carefully—some tours may start after midnight.
No children under 3; each child under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Weight limit is 425 lb per kayak and 250 lb per seat. Alcohol is not permitted.
All sales final; no cancellations. Arrive 15 minutes early—late arrivals are no-shows with no refund or reschedule. If the operator cancels due to unsafe weather, you can reschedule or get a full refund.
You’ll usually paddle in a tandem (two-person) clear kayak, so bring a paddle partner if you can. If you’re solo or in an odd-numbered group, a guide may paddle with you, or you may take a kayak by yourself.
Stay under 425 lb total per kayak, and under 250 lb per seat. The tour also asks that no two people riding together exceed 425 lb combined.
Wear long pants and a long-sleeve shirt, and consider a hat for mosquitoes. Use natural or dry bug spray; they recommend deet-free options and letting it dry before getting into the kayaks.
Titusville - Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, FL (Haulover Canal)
This kayaking operation has clearly built something special on Rock Springs Run. The crystal-clear water and scenery consistently wow visitors, with many describing it as storybook-like and serene. Wildlife sightings are a major draw - guests regularly spot alligators, river otters, deer, turtles, and various birds along the peaceful, winding waterway. The clear-bottom kayaks get specific praise for being stable and adding an extra dimension to the experience, letting you watch the springs beneath you as you paddle. What really sets this outfit apart is the guide team, particularly Megan and Dani, who come up repeatedly for their enthusiasm, knowledge about local ecology and wildlife, and genuine warmth. They're skilled at spotting animals, sharing fascinating facts about the area, and making everyone feel comfortable - especially first-timers. Guides also capture photos during the tour and lead stops where you can hop out and swim in the pristine water. The overall vibe is relaxing yet engaging, striking that perfect balance between exercise and nature immersion that keeps people coming back.
