Cruise Lake Union for Seattle landmarks, floating homes, and waterfront views
1 hour
Up to 6 people
Lake Union cruise, 1 drink
Explore Lake Union by boat and take in Seattle landmarks, floating homes, and passing vessels. Settle in for a leisurely cruise from the lake's north side.
Cancel or reschedule at least 72 hours before departure. Rescheduling 72–24 hours before departure may incur a fee of up to 50%; within 24 hours, up to 100%. Cruises do not cancel for rain.
Arrive 15 minutes early. The cruise leaves right on time, so plan extra time for traffic and limited parking.
Wait at the picnic tables at the end of the dock. A crew member will greet you there and escort you to the boat.
Wear flat shoes. Pointy heels and higher platform shoes are not safe on the dock and are less stable on a moving boat. Dress for the temperature.
Picnic tables at 1341 N. Northlake Way, Seattle, WA 98103
Gas Works Park is one of Seattle's most striking waterfront landmarks, and seeing it from the deck of a Lake Union sightseeing cruise gives you a perspective most visitors never get. The park's rust-streaked towers and weathered industrial bones rise from the north shore of Lake Union, a reminder of the gasification plant that operated here from 1906 to 1956. Reimagined as a public green space, Gas Works Park is now a beloved gathering spot for kite flyers, picnickers, and photographers, and from the water you can take in its full silhouette against the skyline in a single sweeping glance.
During the one-hour cruise, your captain guides the boat past Gas Works Park while sharing stories about its industrial past and its transformation into the green hilltop you see today. You will glide close enough to pick out details on the old gas plant machinery, the colorful sundial atop Kite Hill, and the people scattered across the lawn enjoying the day. The contrast is part of the magic: floating homes bob nearby, seaplanes lift off and land on the lake, and the downtown towers gleam in the distance, while Gas Works Park anchors the scene with its raw, sculptural character. Sensory details come thick and fast, the salt-fresh breeze off the water, the hum of the boat's engine, the cries of gulls overhead.
This cruise is perfect for first-time visitors who want a relaxed introduction to Seattle, photography lovers chasing that classic Gas Works Park shot from the water, and families looking for an easy outing with kids. Couples will appreciate the unhurried pace and the chance to take in the city without battling traffic or crowds. If you have been curious about Gas Works Park or simply want to see Seattle from a fresh angle, this leisurely loop around Lake Union delivers both in a single, memorable hour on the water.
Sailing on Puget Sound or Lake Union with captains like Russ, Dylan, Amy, and Mark has become a genuine Seattle bucket list experience for a lot of people. Reviewers consistently highlight how personable and knowledgeable the captains are, whether they're pointing out floating homes and maritime history on Lake Union or finding the perfect angle for photos on a sunset sail. One reviewer even spotted a humpback whale, which isn't something you can plan for, but speaks to the magic that seems to come with these trips. The format is intimate and private, with the captain right there in the cockpit alongside guests, which most people seem to love. It creates a relaxed, social atmosphere rather than a formal tour. Worth keeping in mind if you prefer more separation, but the vast majority of reviewers found it added to the experience. Weather is always a wildcard on the water, but even on a rainy day, one group ended up sailing into a rainbow, so flexibility and a good attitude go a long way here.
As someone who doesn’t go on a boat often or really hasn’t had the opportunities to get on a boat, this experience by far is a memory I won’t forget. I had the amazing experience this past week to go with my family. Although it wasn’t large boat, it was really comfortable with 7 adults in the boat. The Captian, Russ, was super knowledgeable and a great guide during our trip. He explained how to get around the boat, where things are and what to look for! If you are a Seattleite or from out of state, this is a great boat experience. We were out for around 3 hours, were allowed to bring food, and drinks onto the boat.
