You can drive to the area, but private tourist vehicles cannot cross the Kennecott River. The closest you can drive is the Kennecott River footbridge at the end of McCarthy Road.
Plan for about a 1.5-mile walk on gravel roads from the footbridge to the kennel. There are no shuttle services on the west side of the footbridge other than the operator’s.
Yes. You can add an optional UTV shuttle within a 5-mile radius of the kennel. It costs $2.45 per mile, with a maximum of 5 passengers per ride.
Waylon's Way Dog Sledding, McCarthy AK
Amazing how two young lovely people manage this challenging life (weather, infrastructure) and run this operation of sled dogs where every dog is wonderfully cared for and loved. We got an extensive presentation on their gear and clothes needed for dog sledding, dog food and care. We learned about the idetoride and how to harness the team and took a demo run with a side by side. The tour was informative and fun. Aiden and Kenna are super patient and open to answer any question. Very enjoy and highly recommended.
