Can you see the Northern Lights from the tour location?
Yes—if skies are clear and aurora activity is present, the lights are visible from the yurt and select scenic points along the trail.
When is the best time of year to see the Northern Lights?
Aurora season runs from August 21 to April 21, with the best odds near the winter solstice when nights are longest.
What time of night is best for viewing?
The aurora is most active during the 3–4 hours around midnight, with clear, dark skies offering the best conditions.
How can I improve my chances of seeing the aurora?
Stay outside city limits to reduce light pollution and book at least a 3-night stay to increase the odds of a clear night.
Why is Fairbanks a great place to see the aurora?
It sits beneath the Auroral Oval and has a cold, dry climate that often brings clear night skies.
Are the Northern Lights visible every night?
The aurora is active year-round but visible only on dark, clear nights; during peak season it is often seen 4 out of 5 nights, weather permitting.

Chase, a former Yukon Quest racer, runs an outstanding dog mushing operation that visitors consistently praise as a highlight of their Alaska trip. Travelers love how he introduces each dog individually, sharing their personalities and backgrounds while guests get plenty of time to pet and bond with the enthusiastic team. His knowledge of mushing history and racing experience shines through in engaging, informative talks that appeal to complete beginners and those with prior interest alike. The dogs themselves steal the show with their obvious excitement to run and well-trained discipline. The experience works beautifully year-round, with visitors enjoying both snowy winter runs and summer excursions on ATVs through fall foliage. Families particularly appreciate how welcoming and down-to-earth Chase is, making the experience educational without being stuffy. Thoughtful touches like a warm yurt and rain gear for wet mornings show the care put into guest comfort. This is clearly a genuine operation where the strong bond between musher and dogs is immediately apparent.
This was a highlight of my visit to Alaska. Chase was our guide. Very down to earth and kind person. He introduced us to each dog that was there for our session and gave us insight into each one. I knew nothing about dog mushing and walked away learning a lot about it while also having great fun and bonding with the dogs a bit. Highly recommended. Thanks Chase!
