Taste Chengdu’s street food and Sichuan classics by tuk-tuk
3.5 hours
Food, beer & soft drinks
Explore Chengdu’s food scene by tuk-tuk, moving between street stalls, neighborhood restaurants, and a local bar. Taste a range of Sichuan dishes with food and drinks included.
Chengdu Street Crepes This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange. Pick your poison(s) and discover this addictive treat that is unique to Chengdu at a street-stall-turned-shop that has served the local community for over 30 years.
Sichuan-style Wontons These dumplings are every local’s favorite and come in 5 flavors. Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou,” and test your spice threshold at a family restaurant where they’re made to order by the same hands that have been folding them for generations.
Cruise the City Enjoy unlimited local beer, water, and soft drinks while exploring Chengdu’s backstreets by tuktuk to discover all of our favorite spots for Chengdu’s best food.
All the Noodles Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish. We’ll try a classic Dandan recipe along with a variety of other local favorite Chengdu noodle dishes.
Classic Sichuan Dishes Try Chengdu’s favorite dishes, like Mapo Tofu swimming in a bowl of numbing and spicy chili oil, twice-cooked pork, and stir-fried eggplant at this neighborhood eatery where you’ll only hear local dialect.
Local Plum Wine Try locally made Chengdu spirits in a 70s-80s themed bar that captures a unique turning point in China’s history. The bar is a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour begins. No refund for cancellations made less than 24 hours before the tour. Rescheduling less than 24 hours before the tour incurs a 50% charge.
All dietary requests must be communicated at the time of booking. Vegetarian travelers, including pescatarians and those avoiding specific meats, can be accommodated, though not every dish has substitutes. This tour cannot accommodate vegan or gluten-free diets; wheat appears at every stop. Severe allergies cannot be accommodated and cross-contamination is possible. Not all dishes are spicy; the spiciest options are at the third and fourth stops, and no-spice options are available.
This is more than a full meal with at least 10 dishes. The largest portions are at the final restaurant, so pace yourself. Local beer and soft drinks are unlimited until the bar, where the first round is included.
No. This is a tuktuk-serviced tour covering about 10km across five stops, with only very short walks from the tuktuk to each restaurant. If you have mobility issues, please let the team know.
Portland food tours done right. Guides like Herb, Michelle, and Evangel consistently earn high praise for their genuine enthusiasm, deep local knowledge, and ability to make every guest feel at ease. From Portland's quirky food cart pods to the city's thriving coffee and donut scene, each tour weaves together great food with real stories about the people and neighborhoods behind it. What stands out most across reviews is how often guests mention trying things they never would have ordered on their own, and loving them. Dietary accommodations are handled smoothly, group sizes stay small and social, and the pacing feels relaxed rather than rushed. Locals and visitors alike come away with a fresh perspective on the city. If you're trying to decide between tours, the food cart experience and the coffee and donut tour both draw glowing feedback, each offering something distinct. The guides clearly take pride in what they do, and that energy tends to be contagious. Come hungry and ready to explore.
Wow so much great food and Herb did a great job guiding us around the food cart pods! Our group of 3 so enjoyed everything- from the thai iced tea on the unusually warm day (from Portland) to the el pastor tacos to the chicken swarma and bavarian queen strawberry & cream waffle! Yum! this is the food cart tour to take in Portland for delicious food (with enough to take home for another meal or two!) Next I need to try the coffee and donut tour !
