Taste Portland-made coffee and donuts while exploring downtown’s café culture
2.5 hrs
Coffee, donuts, local guide
Taste coffee, donuts, and pastries at locally focused downtown stops while learning how Portland helped shape modern coffee culture. Explore the city’s quirky history on a guided walk through its café scene.
Start in the Heart of Downtown Portland • Meet your guide at a coffee shop the heart of Downtown Portland. Before you know it, you’ll have a coffee in hand and set out to watch the streets come alive during your morning with us.
Pour-Over Coffee Tasting • Taste two single-origin coffees brewed by pour-over, side by side. See why Portland drives the “Third Wave” coffee movement and learn to taste coffee like wine: notes, body, finish, the whole thing.
Discover the Local's Favorite Donut • Portland has over 75 locally owned and operated donut shops (that’s a lot, btw), and locals are very divisive about their favorite. We’ll sample a selection of the best from our favorite shop, which may include buttermilk bars, lavender glaze, and mochi.
Explore Downtown Portland • From “Portland’s Living Room” and its echo chamber to Powell’s Books to our “Benson Bubblers,” Downtown is brimming with quirky history and surprises that perfectly capture our infamous “Keep Portland Weird” slogan.
Nitro Cold Brew • The nitro cold brew trend started here, and the perfect place to try this creamy and smooth brew poured straight from the tap is at Portland’s most celebrated roaster.
Downtown's Tiniest Café • At the coziest, most quintessentially Portland hole-in-the-wall café (that also roasts their own beans), indulge in a traditional macchiato paired perfectly with a homemade French pastry.
Specialty Latte and Local Pastries • End your morning with a specialty latte alongside fresh donuts and beignets, while discovering how this family-run Downtown staple has kept Portlanders coming back for almost 20 years.
This itinerary is subject to changes and adjustments based on daily vendor operations and availability, but it will always be awesome.

Portland food tours led by guides like Herb, Michelle, and Evangel have built a serious reputation for turning first-time visitors and longtime locals alike into true believers. Herb's food cart tours stand out particularly, with reviewers consistently praising his ability to introduce people to cuisines they'd never have tried on their own, while weaving in Portland history and culture throughout the walk. Michelle brings that same energy to the coffee and donut circuit, and Evangel's wine tour has earned its own devoted following. What makes these tours click seems to be the combination of genuinely great food and guides who actually care about the city they're showing off. Vegetarian dietary needs were handled without fuss, portion sizes are described as generous, and even self-described picky eaters walked away happy. The small group format keeps things personal, and several reviewers noted they ended up staying out longer than planned because the experience was just that enjoyable. This is the kind of tour that works equally well as a first-day orientation to Portland or a way for locals to rediscover their own backyard. If you're on the fence, the reviews tell a pretty consistent story: come hungry, expect to learn something, and plan to leave with a new favorite spot.
Wow so much great food and Herb did a great job guiding us around the food cart pods! Our group of 3 so enjoyed everything- from the thai iced tea on the unusually warm day (from Portland) to the el pastor tacos to the chicken swarma and bavarian queen strawberry & cream waffle! Yum! this is the food cart tour to take in Portland for delicious food (with enough to take home for another meal or two!) Next I need to try the coffee and donut tour !
