Portland food tours led by guides like Herb, Michelle, and Evangel have built a serious reputation for turning first-time visitors and longtime locals alike into true believers. Herb's food cart tours stand out particularly, with reviewers consistently praising his ability to introduce people to cuisines they'd never have tried on their own, while weaving in Portland history and culture throughout the walk. Michelle brings that same energy to the coffee and donut circuit, and Evangel's wine tour has earned its own devoted following. What makes these tours click seems to be the combination of genuinely great food and guides who actually care about the city they're showing off. Vegetarian dietary needs were handled without fuss, portion sizes are described as generous, and even self-described picky eaters walked away happy. The small group format keeps things personal, and several reviewers noted they ended up staying out longer than planned because the experience was just that enjoyable. This is the kind of tour that works equally well as a first-day orientation to Portland or a way for locals to rediscover their own backyard. If you're on the fence, the reviews tell a pretty consistent story: come hungry, expect to learn something, and plan to leave with a new favorite spot.
I had such a great time joining Michelle’s Lost Food Plate tour! Even as a Portland local, I had so much fun and got to explore a few spots I’d never been to before. The coffee and donuts were GREAT, and it was really interesting to see downtown’s coffee culture up close. I thought I knew all these places, but clearly I didn’t! I’d absolutely recommend this tour to friends and family, whether they’re visiting from out of town or locals wanting to experience Portland in a new way. It would also make a fun activity for a group trip!
