Explore a mountain lake trail beneath the forested slopes of Southeast Alaska. Follow gravel, rocks, and roots through old-growth rainforest to the base of an avalanche chute.
15 minutes: Load up and drive to trail head 1 hour and 15 minutes: Hike 2 miles up to avalanche chute 15 minutes: Sightsee and relax at avalanche chute 1 hour: Hike back 15 minutes: Drive back to Berth 3 and unload

Expect a somewhat strenuous hike on elevated, uneven terrain. You’ll climb on sections with gravel, large rocks, and roots, and the route gains roughly 800 feet on the way to the avalanche chute.
Wear hiking boots or trail shoes with traction and support. Bring a jacket or warm layer, a rain jacket and rain pants, and a backpack if possible (line it with a garbage bag). You can also bring a camera.
No. There are no facilities at the trailhead or along the trail. Use public restrooms at Berth 3 before or after the hike.
