Ketchikan 5.5-Mile Guided Alpine Hike

Explore a private backcountry hike from a forested lake through old-growth rainforest to an alpine overlook. Learn about Southeast Alaska's flora, fauna, and logging history as you climb uneven mountain terrain.

• Follow an improved gravel trail beside a forested lake
• Ascend natural trail surfaces with rocks, roots, boulder steps, and stream crossings
• Discover the avalanche chute at 1,100 feet and the overlook at 1,650 feet
• Follow a hard turnaround time; reaching the overlook is not guaranteed
• Leave no trace by packing out all waste, food, and litter

Know before you go

• Complete a signed digital liability waiver
• Requires experience hiking elevated, uneven terrain at a consistent moderate pace
• Wear hiking boots or trail shoes with traction and support, plus rain layers
• Bring a jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt and a backpack if possible
• Expect no facilities at the trailhead or along the trail
• Face masks may be required during vehicle transportation
• Not wheelchair accessible
• Availability in spring and late fall depends on snow-free trail conditions
• Alcohol, tobacco, and drugs are not permitted
