Climb Wasatch peaks on a full-day guided alpine outing
9 hours
Spend a full day alpine climbing in the Wasatch Range, with objectives tailored to your group’s interests and skills. Expect consistent movement, time in exposed positions, and options from single-pitch crags to classic multi-pitch routes.
Gear needs vary by season: many summer routes use approach shoes, while winter may require mountain boots and crampons (or sometimes skis). Bring your own food and water for the day.
Cancel more than 30 days before your reservation to reschedule with no penalty or get a full refund (non-private courses require 60+ days for a full refund). Within 30 days (60 for courses): 50% refundable. Within 7 days and no-shows: non-refundable. Full refund if The Backcountry Pros cancels due to weather.
Bring approach shoes, sun hat (for under your helmet), sunglasses, flexible lightweight pants, a short-sleeve T-shirt or long-sleeve sun shirt, an insulating top layer, a light rain jacket, sunscreen, food for the day (snacks and lunch), water (1L in winter; 2–3L in summer), a phone, and any personal items (medications, camera, etc.).
Climbing harness, climbing helmet, tube-style belay device and locking carabiner, 20–30L backpack, nut tool, and (route/season-dependent) crampons, ice axe, trekking pole(s), beacon, shovel, and probe can be provided.
In summer, most routes can be traveled with sticky rubber approach shoes. In winter, you may need mountain boots and crampons (and sometimes skis), depending on the route.

With a perfect track record across hundreds of reviews, this guide service consistently delivers exceptional outdoor education and adventures. Guides like John (the owner), Adam, Nate, Dan, and Chris earn praise for being both incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely fun to be around. Reviewers appreciate how these professionals balance safety with an approachable teaching style that makes complex topics like avalanche safety and technical climbing accessible to newcomers. The small student-to-teacher ratios really shine through in the feedback, especially for avalanche courses where people felt they received personalized attention while learning critical skills. Families and groups mention smooth communication during booking and guides who adapt well to mixed ability levels, from kids to seniors. Instructors create an open atmosphere where questions are encouraged, and they push students to think independently rather than just following along. Several people specifically mention feeling comfortable during dangerous conditions because their guides took time to explain decision-making processes, not just bark orders.
I attended an SPI course at the City of Rocks. Adam Fleming was my instructor, and I was very impressed. The course was given with excellent structure and timing. Adam has a depth of knowledge that was very apparent.
