3 hrs
Guided foraging, tasting, e-book
Spend three immersive hours searching fields and forests for seasonal wild edibles with an experienced forager. Taste your finds on the trail and take them home for a restaurant-prepared appetizer.
How strenuous are the tours?
This is not a hike. We cover less than half a mile on mostly level ground, stopping frequently.
What’s the difference between the foraging tour and the wild food stroll?
The stroll takes place at an in-town resort, lasts half as long, and does not include actual foraging, a cooking demo/tasting, or more than one restaurant option.
Does the tour include a meal?
No. The tour includes a small tasting and an appetizer featuring your finds with lunch or dinner at a local restaurant.
Do we always find mushrooms?
No, but there are also edible wild fruits, nuts, greens, and more.
Do we spend all our time in the woods?
No, especially in colder months, when there’s more wild food in sunny areas.
Are dogs allowed?
No, but dogs can be brought on private tours by special request.
This easy stroll covers less than half a mile on mostly level ground. Dogs are not permitted on public tours. Operates rain or shine.

This foraging experience delivers exactly what Asheville visitors are looking for: knowledgeable guides who make identifying wild edibles accessible and fun. Guides like Dimitri, Kat, Alan, and Joey consistently earn praise for their expertise and engaging personalities, sharing detailed knowledge about plants, fungi, and herbs while keeping things entertaining. Families love it (ages 2 to 70 have participated successfully), couples have celebrated anniversaries here, and repeat visitors say they learn something new each time. The format works beautifully. Tours start with welcoming touches like spicebush tea, then move through trails where guides teach identification techniques using smell, sight, and careful observation. The highlight for many is the tasting at the end, where guides prepare delicious snacks from what the group has foraged. There's also a creative partnership program where you can bring your finds to local restaurants for another tasting experience. The peaceful, educational approach leaves people confident enough to forage on their own afterward, which speaks volumes about the quality of instruction.
Super fun experience with knowledgeable guides. We especially loved the end, where the guides prepared a snack from the foraged foods! We also participated in the program where you bring foraged foods to a partner restaurant — excellent and really fabulous idea!!
