Prescott Park sits right along the Piscataqua River in downtown Portsmouth, and it is one of the most memorable stops on the City of Portsmouth Bike Tour. With its open lawns, blooming flower gardens, and sweeping water views toward Badger's Island and the Memorial Bridge, Prescott Park offers a moment of calm in the middle of a ride that weaves through cobblestone streets, historic neighborhoods, and the working waterfront. The park was created in the 1930s by sisters Josie and Mary Prescott, who wanted to preserve this stretch of riverfront for the public, and that generous spirit still shapes the place today.
As you roll into Prescott Park on the bike tour, you will trade the hum of downtown traffic for the sound of the river, the rigging of nearby boats, and the breeze coming off the water. The seasonal flower trial gardens bring vivid color from late spring through fall, and the lawns and fountains make it a natural spot to pause, take photos, and hear the stories behind the surrounding landmarks. From Prescott Park you can look across to the historic Strawbery Banke neighborhood, watch tugboats guide ships up the Piscataqua, and get a real sense of why Portsmouth grew up around this harbor. It is a striking contrast to the tighter colonial streets and tucked-away corners the tour explores elsewhere in the city.
Prescott Park is a highlight for riders who enjoy a mix of history, scenery, and easy outdoor moments, including families, couples, first-time visitors to Portsmouth, and anyone who prefers a relaxed, sightseeing-paced ride over a hard workout. Photographers love the river light, history fans appreciate the layered backstory, and casual cyclists enjoy the flat, open paths around the gardens. If you want to see the heart of seacoast New Hampshire from the saddle, the stop at Prescott Park ties the whole City of Portsmouth Bike Tour together.

Incredible experience renting an E-Bike with PortCity today. They offer tours and independent rentals. I like to do things by myself, so I opted for a solo rental. The shop recommended a fantastic 22 mile loop through the Komoot app. Finished the loop early, and decided to ride into Maine for lunch. They we’re super flexible allowing me to rent the bike for an additional hour. Can’t recommend enough. Will repeat next time I’m in town!
