Ride the Alaska Railroad to kayak among Spencer Glacier icebergs
7 Hours
Up to 12 people
Train tickets, lunch, kayak gear
Travel by train to Spencer Whistle Stop, then paddle tandem sea kayaks on Spencer Lake near Spencer Glacier. Your naturalist guide shares glaciology and local ecology as you explore among icebergs.
A state-issued ID is required to board the train, and it must match your booking name. Trips run in most weather, but moderate to strong breezes may prevent kayaking; you’ll do a shoreline walk instead, with no refunds for the alternate activity.
Cancellations are subject to a $15 per person cancellation fee. Cancellations made less than 72 hours before departure time are subject to a 100% cancellation fee. No refunds if an alternate activity is provided due to unsafe paddling conditions.
Bring a government-issued ID. A state-issued ID is required to board the train, and it must match the name on your booking. Passengers ages 18+ must present a government-issued photo ID or two other forms of ID (one issued by a government authority). Children ages 2–15 must travel with an adult age 18+.
Bring a reusable water bottle, rain jacket and rain pants, a fleece jacket, non-cotton long pants and a non-cotton long-sleeved shirt, warm long wool socks, sturdy trail shoes or hiking boots, sunglasses, a baseball hat, a backpack, sunscreen, your camera, a credit card for train purchases, and money for gratuities.
If moderate to strong breezes (Beaufort Scale Force 3 or higher) make kayaking unsafe, you’ll switch to a walk along the shore of Spencer Lake for views of the glacial valley, icebergs, and Spencer Glacier. You won’t receive a refund if you do the alternate activity.
