Kayak among Spencer Lake icebergs with a naturalist guide and round-trip train ride
7 Hours
Train ticket, lunch, kayak gear
Ride the Alaska Railroad to Spencer Whistle Stop, then paddle tandem sea kayaks on Spencer Lake near the edge of Spencer Glacier. Learn about glaciology and blue ice with a naturalist guide as you explore away from the road system.
A state-issued ID is required to board the train and must match your booking name. If conditions are unsafe for kayaking, the trip switches to a guided walk along Spencer Lake with no refunds for the alternate activity.
Cancellations are subject to a $15 per person fee. Cancel less than 72 hours before departure and you are charged 100%. No refunds if weather requires an alternate activity instead of kayaking.
Bring a state-issued (government-issued) photo ID that matches the name on your booking. Alaska Railroad passengers age 18+ must present a government-issued photo ID, or two other forms of ID (one government-issued). Children ages 2–15 may travel only with an adult age 18+.
Bring a reusable water bottle, rain jacket and rain pants, a fleece jacket, non-cotton long pants and a non-cotton long-sleeved shirt, warm long wool socks, sturdy trail shoes or hiking boots, sunglasses, a baseball hat, a backpack, sunscreen, and your camera. Bring a credit card for train purchases and gratuities.
If conditions are unsafe for kayaking (including moderate to strong breezes), you’ll switch to a walk along the shore of Spencer Lake to take in the glacial valley, icebergs, and Spencer Glacier. You won’t receive a refund if the trip runs as an alternate activity.
