Tuk-tuk through Xian for 10 or more dishes and Silk Road flavors
3.5 Hours
10+ dishes, drinks, tuk-tuk
Explore the food traditions shaped by Xian's role on the Silk Road. Discover Shaanxi cuisine, known for its noodle, lamb, and mutton dishes and savory spices.
Biang Biang Noodles Xian uses noodles more than most Chinese cuisines. Start the tour with iconic Biang Biang noodles, where the noodles get their name from the sound they make when slammed on the counter. Made fresh to order (while you watch!), they are served with a variety of toppings and homemade chili oil.
Beef BBQ Sit side-by-side a local BBQ master in a hidden alley with over 1,400 years of history in the Muslim quarter. The use of spices brought via the Silk Road, like cumin and fennel, create its unique Xian-only flavor.
Get Behind the Scenes of Muslim Quarter Escape the droves of tourists on Muslim Street’s main thoroughfare and discover the heart of Mulsim quarter by tuktuk. These quaint alleyways are home to one of China’s largest Muslim populations and are filled with hidden mosques and locals-only restaurants if you know where to look.
Soup Dumplings and Porridge You’ve heard of Shanghai soup dumplings, but have you tried Xian’s? Try perfectly spiced dumplings, served alongside eight treasure porridge and an immaculate savory soup.
Shaanxi Cuisine Specialities Eat gourd chicken – chicken that is boiled, steamed with spices, and then deep fried whole to yield a very crispy and aromatic skin, and a desperately tender interior. Plus a selection of other dishes that are unique to Xian!
Local Craft Beer End the night sampling several craft beers at a brewery nestled in Xian’s historic city walls, before choosing the pint of your choice.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour begins. Cancellations less than 24 hours before are nonrefundable. Rescheduling less than 24 hours before is charged an additional 50% of the previous total.
Requests must be communicated at booking. This tour is not recommended for vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free travelers. It is no-pork friendly and features mutton and beef. Severe allergies cannot be accommodated and cross-contamination with nuts is possible.
This is more than a full meal. Come hungry. Food, beer, and soft drinks are unlimited until the last stop, which is a brewery, with at least 10 courses overall.
The tour is by tuk-tuk with some short, quick walks.
Portland food tours done right. Guides like Herb, Michelle, and Evangel consistently earn high praise for their genuine enthusiasm, deep local knowledge, and ability to make every guest feel at ease. From Portland's quirky food cart pods to the city's thriving coffee and donut scene, each tour weaves together great food with real stories about the people and neighborhoods behind it. What stands out most across reviews is how often guests mention trying things they never would have ordered on their own, and loving them. Dietary accommodations are handled smoothly, group sizes stay small and social, and the pacing feels relaxed rather than rushed. Locals and visitors alike come away with a fresh perspective on the city. If you're trying to decide between tours, the food cart experience and the coffee and donut tour both draw glowing feedback, each offering something distinct. The guides clearly take pride in what they do, and that energy tends to be contagious. Come hungry and ready to explore.
Wow so much great food and Herb did a great job guiding us around the food cart pods! Our group of 3 so enjoyed everything- from the thai iced tea on the unusually warm day (from Portland) to the el pastor tacos to the chicken swarma and bavarian queen strawberry & cream waffle! Yum! this is the food cart tour to take in Portland for delicious food (with enough to take home for another meal or two!) Next I need to try the coffee and donut tour !
