Private 2-hour sunset sail with New York Harbor landmarks
2 Hours
Up to 6 people
Private charter, captain, crew
Enjoy a private sunset sail in New York Harbor with your group aboard the classic sailboat Tara. Cruise past landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Governors Island, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Recommended for ages 5+, and children under 12 must wear a life jacket while on board. Soft-soled shoes are preferred; hard-soled shoes or high heels require going barefoot.
Your charter will be cancelled if the weather is inclement; only the captain decides. Charters still run in light rain and other non-inclement conditions. You may cancel 24 hours before start for a full refund only if you added 24-hour cancellation insurance (additional 10% at booking).
Yes. Bring your own food and drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Keep food to snacks and easy-to-eat items like sandwiches, and plan picnic-style since there is no formal table on board.
Dress for safety, comfort, and weather. In spring and fall, wear layers and bring a jacket or sweatshirt (it can feel cooler at sea). In summer, bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Wear soft-soled shoes like boat shoes or sneakers. If you wear hard-soled shoes or high heels, you will be asked to go barefoot for safety.

Sailing New York Harbor with Captains David, Clark, Beck, and Thomas has become one of those rare NYC experiences that locals and visitors alike rave about. The knowledgeable, personable captains seem to be the real draw here, consistently praised for sharing history, pointing out landmarks, and genuinely making guests feel at ease on the water. Routes typically take in the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Brooklyn Bridge, giving you a perspective of the city that's hard to match from land. The sunset sail stands out as a crowd favorite, with guests noting how magical it is to watch the city shift from daylight to dark from the water. One guest even pulled off a surprise proposal with the captain's help. Little touches like offering blankets on cooler evenings reflect the kind of thoughtfulness reviewers mention repeatedly. The boats themselves also get plenty of love, including one classic vessel from 1964 that adds a bit of historic charm to the whole outing. For anyone looking for a memorable, unhurried way to experience New York, this is a strong choice.
