Kayak Yellowstone Lake at twilight with snacks and geyser views
3 Hours
Refreshments, snacks
Paddle the shores of Yellowstone Lake on a 3-hour twilight kayak tour. Traverse about 3 miles and view active geyser features from the water.
Ages 6+ can join. Meet at Yellowstone Lake in Grant Village; plan ahead due to limited cell coverage. If your party is more than 15 minutes late, the tour will depart without waiting.
Cancel more than 24 hours in advance for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours are charged in full. Trips are weather dependent; if conditions are unsafe for kayaking, the operator may cancel and try to reschedule.
Dress in layers and plan for quick changes in weather. Wear quick-drying clothing (no cotton), a mid-weight wicking shirt (wool or synthetic), and shoes you don’t mind getting wet.
Consider bringing lightweight synthetic wind pants, warm jacket or beanie, rain jacket, a change of warm dry clothes, sunscreen, drinking water, snacks, sun hat, and sunglasses. Binoculars and a camera are optional.
Plan extra time for traffic congestion and limited cell coverage in the park. If your party is more than 15 minutes late, the tour departs without waiting; if you’re late, the operator may also leave without you or cancel your trip and keep 100% of the original booking funds.
Yellowstone Lake
Prismatic Tours offers a standout kayaking experience on Yellowstone Lake that reviewers consistently describe as a highlight of their park visit. The six-mile paddle takes you up close to geysers and thermal features from a perspective you can't get from the boardwalks, with regular wildlife sightings like bald eagles and elk along the shoreline. Guides Dylan and Maddi get enthusiastic praise across reviews for being personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging with everyone from young children to older adults. The company keeps groups intentionally small, which means less crowded launches and more personal attention throughout the trip. Both sunset and morning tours are popular, with many noting how peaceful and relaxing it feels to be on the water away from typical tourist crowds. Equipment is quality, and guides make beginners feel completely comfortable while still keeping experienced paddlers happy. Even visitors who initially wanted to kayak independently ended up thrilled they went with a guided tour, thanks to all the park history and geological insights they gained.
We had a three-hour sunset kayaking trip with Grand Prismatic Tours in late September 2025. Dylan was our guide, and he did a phenomenal job. He was personable, knowledgeable, and kind. My husband and I were in a tandem kayak and the six-mile round-trip paddle was easy to execute and enjoyable. Dylan pointed out wildlife as we paddled - a bald eagle and a close-up elk on the shoreline were particularly memorable - and told us interesting facts about the lake and Yellowstone’s geothermal features. Speaking of, seeing the geysers from the water was a really unique and neat experience. I would highly recommend!
