Prismatic Tours offers a standout kayaking experience on Yellowstone Lake that reviewers consistently describe as a highlight of their park visit. The six-mile paddle takes you up close to geysers and thermal features from a perspective you can't get from the boardwalks, with regular wildlife sightings like bald eagles and elk along the shoreline. Guides Dylan and Maddi get enthusiastic praise across reviews for being personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging with everyone from young children to older adults. The company keeps groups intentionally small, which means less crowded launches and more personal attention throughout the trip. Both sunset and morning tours are popular, with many noting how peaceful and relaxing it feels to be on the water away from typical tourist crowds. Equipment is quality, and guides make beginners feel completely comfortable while still keeping experienced paddlers happy. Even visitors who initially wanted to kayak independently ended up thrilled they went with a guided tour, thanks to all the park history and geological insights they gained.
We had a three-hour sunset kayaking trip with Grand Prismatic Tours in late September 2025. Dylan was our guide, and he did a phenomenal job. He was personable, knowledgeable, and kind. My husband and I were in a tandem kayak and the six-mile round-trip paddle was easy to execute and enjoyable. Dylan pointed out wildlife as we paddled - a bald eagle and a close-up elk on the shoreline were particularly memorable - and told us interesting facts about the lake and Yellowstone’s geothermal features. Speaking of, seeing the geysers from the water was a really unique and neat experience. I would highly recommend!
