Kodiak Travels is a family-owned sea life charter devoted to sharing the raw beauty of Kodiak Island with curious travelers. Our seasoned captain and naturalist crew have spent their lives navigating these waters, reading the tide...
Captain Stephen has clearly found his calling leading these intimate boat tours around Kodiak's waters. Travelers consistently rave about his genuine enthusiasm for spotting wildlife, with many noting how his excitement matches their own when whales surface nearby. The small boat setup means nobody's fighting for views, and guests regularly report incredibly close encounters with humpback whales, sea lions, otters, puffins, and eagles. Stephen's knowledge of where to find wildlife seems spot-on. The thoughtful touches make a difference here. There's a wood stove inside the cabin so you can warm up between viewing sessions, and Stephen provides a spread of snacks and drinks that multiple reviewers specifically mentioned appreciating. His friendly, welcoming personality shines through in every review, described as patient, educational, and fun to spend time with. For travelers wanting an authentic Kodiak wildlife experience without the crowded tour boat atmosphere, this comes highly recommended across the board.
We had a fantastic experience on our whale watching tour with Stephen. Stephan was friendly and highly knowledgable about the area. He took us first to see a colony of sea lions, who showed off for us, twirling under the boat and doing flips. Then we found two humpback whales and followed them from a close but safe distance for quite a while. Along the way, we also saw otters, puffins and other sea birds. We had the option of either being out on deck or indoors, sheltered from the wind, and I took advantage of both options during the outing. A nice touch was the snacks provided. It was a great experience and reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
