Daniel Sullivan is an award-winning photographer who turns Maui’s most stunning corners into your personal classroom. On his private, custom-designed tours, guests venture far beyond typical lookout points to multicolored beaches,...
Daniel has built something truly special on Maui, and repeat visitors say it all – photographers come back year after year, some booking multiple tours per trip. His expertise shines whether you're shooting with an iPhone or professional gear, and reviewers consistently praise his patience in teaching everything from water smoothing techniques to focus bracketing and astrophotography. The tours range from sunrise-to-sunset adventures along the Road to Hana to helicopter whale photography, with each experience revealing hidden waterfalls, lesser-known locations, and breathtaking spots you'd never find on your own. Beyond the photography instruction, Daniel brings nearly two decades of Maui residency to every tour. His deep knowledge of Hawaiian history and culture enriches the experience, making it feel like exploring with a knowledgeable friend rather than a standard tour guide. He handles all the driving in challenging terrain, knows the best local food stops, and times visits to beat the crowds at popular locations. The tours accommodate all skill levels, from absolute beginners to advanced amateurs, with Daniel adjusting his teaching approach to match each photographer's abilities and goals. Many reviewers mention these tours as highlights of their entire Maui vacation.
While on vacation in Maui visiting family, I was interested in photographing places with someone who knows Maui well. I have been a fan of Daniel’s work, following him on social media. I decided to take a photo workshop, not only to get some great pictures but also to meet Daniel and get to know him a bit. The time we spent walking, talking and photographing the countryside was time well spent. I just threw out there, “hey I’d love to do a whale watch by helicopter!” He made it happen, and it was an experience I’ll never forget!
