Princess Monterey Whale Watching invites you aboard the bay’s largest, most comfortable vessels for close-up encounters with humpbacks, orcas, dolphins, and a dazzling cast of sea life. Friendly marine biologists narrate each voya...
Most guests come back thrilled after spotting abundant marine life, with humpback whales stealing the show alongside dolphins, sea lions, and otters. The crew and naturalists earn consistent praise for their enthusiasm and knowledge, making the experience both educational and exciting. Several reviewers mention the staff's genuine excitement matching their own when whales appear, and they handle seasick passengers with care and discretion. One memorable trip featured a curious humpback hanging around the boat for ten minutes, which the crew explained was incredibly rare behavior. The main complaint worth noting involves the VIP upper deck upgrade. One detailed review warns that the upper deck lacks forward viewing, has limited standing room, and exposes you to cold winds, while the regular lower deck offers comfortable indoor seating, picture windows, and protected outdoor viewing areas. Another guest felt rushed through the tour, with too much transit time and not enough viewing stops. Despite these concerns, the overwhelming sentiment leans positive, with loyal customers returning year after year and many saying it exceeded their expectations. The onboard amenities are basic but functional, with coffee, snacks, and cold-weather gear available for purchase.
What an amazing experience we had! The crew and staff that checked us in were very nice, and the deck crew and naturalist were amazing and kept us safe and informed the whole time. Our watching turned into more of a hangout when we spotted a people watching humpback that wanted to spend some time with us. We were awestruck by the curious humpback that was checking out our boat for a good 10 minutes! Jaw dropped and silence while he bobbed back and forth the two sides! This was apparently VERY RARE because humpbacks are not social whales, so we all collectively took it in while it was happening. I got one quick video but just enjoyed being in the moment. He had some stinky breath from eating all those fatty little fish. It’s a smell I won’t forget soon haha Although you may not have our amazing experience, this crew does know how to track whales and show you a good time. 10/10 recommend Princess Whale Watching! We also got to see lots of other marine life (moon jellies, lions, and a bunch of other creatures I forgot the names of😆) bring binoculars, and layers, and sunscreen!
