Nature Adventure Outfitters is a Charleston-area ecotour and gear company that turns the South Carolina Lowcountry into an open-air classroom. Certified naturalists lead sea-kayak, canoe, SUP and motorboat trips through black-wate...
Jay and Charlie lead kayak tours through the stunning Wambaw and Awendaw Creek areas that consistently impress visitors. Reviewers rave about their deep knowledge of the Lowcountry ecosystem, from identifying local birds and flora to sharing Native American history and Charleston lore. The guides create relaxed, informative experiences where gator sightings and dolphin encounters feel like natural highlights rather than forced attractions. The calm, peaceful waters make for easy paddling even for beginners, and guides go the extra mile by taking photos for guests. Beyond kayaking, they offer camping facilities right by the water in a secluded, serene setting. Campers mention spacious sites with fire rings and tables, plus the bonus of dolphins swimming by in the mornings. The facilities are clean, though showers are a bit of a walk from campsites. One reviewer noted occasional difficulty reaching them initially, though they came through when needed. The overall vibe is authentic Lowcountry wilderness without the crowds, perfect for anyone seeking genuine nature immersion with knowledgeable local guides.
We did the Wambaw Creek Kayak Tour with NAO and the Bulls Bay Nature Festival and had the best morning. The two hour tour took us up the Wambaw Creek in the swamp. Our guide, Jay, shared all about the creek, birds, trees and flowers along the way. The water was calm and peaceful. We saw an alligator, but he was just minding his own business. Hope to do this again!
