UPDATE: Today's trip was much better - no sandstorm and the photos show the difference. Welcome to "Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii" (Navajo name for Monument Valley), meaning "Valley of the Rocks" or "valley within the rock", also interpreted as "rocks within the white streaks" or "clearing among the rocks," referring to the light-colored sedimentary layers that surround the sandstone buttes. This area is all part of the Navajo Tribal Park and is famous for its spectacular displays of towering sandstone mesas and buttes, stunning landscape and the location of many a Hollywood movie. This iconic western location is where you will find some of the most amazing sandstone rock formations anywhere in the United States. In addition, take the time to learn some of the amazing history of this area and the Diné (Navajo) people. The "Diné" is the name they use for themselves, meaning "the People" and they a Native American tribe primarily located in the Southwestern United States, specifically in parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The Navajo Nation, their traditional homeland, is the largest tribal land area in the United States. Do not forget to drive the 17-mile looping Valley Drive for a more up close and personal connections with some of Mother’s Natures most phenomenal scenery. During this visit we unfortunately drove into a terrible sandstone, which covered most of the valley and lasted the entire time we were there. Great site.
