Ride the Leadville Railroad through high-altitude Rocky Mountain views
2.5 Hours
Roundtrip ride, Narration
Ride a 2.5-hour, roundtrip train from Leadville through the Colorado Rockies with scenic views and partial narration. Choose coach or lounge seating, with restrooms on board and concessions available for purchase.
The train runs in most weather unless it is unsafe, and delays may occur. Alcoholic beverages and firearms are not permitted to be brought on board, and smoking is not allowed.
Tickets are non-refundable. You may change your reservation if capacity allows; changes are subject to a $6.00 fee per ticket and must be made before the original trip date. If you no-show or arrive late, no refunds are offered.
Check in at the Depot before you board. Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure, and the railroad may sell your ticket if you do not check in at will call at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure.
Choose coach for first-come, first-served seating (indoor and open-air; some cars have roofs and some are uncovered). Choose the lounge car for assigned seating with fixed tables and booths; staff assigns seats before the trip and will try to honor requests but cannot guarantee them.
Bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages. You can also buy concessions on board, and alcohol is available for purchase on the train. Do not bring alcoholic beverages on board.

The crew here really makes the experience special. Visitors consistently praise the friendly, knowledgeable staff who bring the area's history to life while keeping things fun and welcoming. The train itself features vintage late 1800s style cars with large windows you can open for photos, plus open-air sections where you can grab drinks and soak in the mountain views at 11,000 feet. The depot and gift shop add to the nostalgic charm, and they offer military discounts too. The scenery is the real showstopper, with passengers calling it beautiful and perfect for that quintessential Colorado mountain experience. Most find it relaxing rather than thrilling, which seems to be the intended vibe. A few practical notes: the caboose is a highly recommended upgrade if available, and snagging a booth makes for a more comfortable ride. Some mentioned inconsistencies with seating arrangements for families, and the food pricing gets occasional grumbles for being high relative to quality. Still, with hot chocolate and pretzels available onboard, most passengers found plenty to enjoy during their journey through the mountains.
