    • Look for tropical reef fish and other marine life
    • Store personal items in an individual storage area

    Itinerary

6:15 AM — Check-In at Kihei Boat Ramp

Meet the Maui Snorkel Charters crew at the designated check-in area near the boat and trailer.

    During check-in, guests will:

    • Confirm reservation details
    • Complete any outstanding waivers
    • Receive snorkeling equipment
    • Store personal belongings
    • Review boarding instructions

Please arrive on time so the vessel can depart promptly.

6:25 AM — Boarding and Safety Briefing

Guests will board the No Ka Oi, our custom-built adventure boat.

Before departure, the captain and crew will provide a brief orientation covering:

    • Vessel safety procedures
    • Snorkeling equipment
    • Water-entry and reboarding procedures
    • Current weather and ocean conditions
    • Responsible reef and wildlife interaction

6:30 AM — Depart Kihei Boat Ramp

We will depart Kihei Boat Ramp and travel toward Molokini Crater as the sun rises over Haleakalā.

    Early-morning conditions often provide:

    • Calmer seas
    • Cooler temperatures
    • Lighter winds
    • Fewer boats
    • Less crowded snorkeling
    • Excellent underwater visibility

The sunrise over Haleakalā, viewed from the water near Molokini, is one of the most memorable sights Maui has to offer.

Approximately 6:50 AM — Arrive at Molokini Crater

After arriving at Molokini, the crew will help guests prepare their equipment and enter the water.

Being among the first boats at the crater provides an opportunity to experience the reef before the larger tour boats arrive.

6:55–7:50 AM — Molokini Snorkeling Adventure

Explore Molokini’s clear water, dramatic underwater terrain, and vibrant marine ecosystem.

    Common marine life may include:

    • Butterflyfish
    • Parrotfish
    • Surgeonfish
    • Moorish idols
    • Triggerfish
    • Wrasse
    • Cornetfish
    • Goatfish
    • Yellow tang
    • Schools of colorful tropical reef fish

Marine life is wild, and exact sightings, water visibility, and snorkeling conditions cannot be guaranteed.

The captain and crew will select the safest and most suitable snorkeling area based on current conditions.

7:50 AM — Reboard and Prepare for Departure

Guests will return to the vessel, remove snorkeling equipment, and prepare for the cruise back to Kihei.

The crew will confirm that all guests and equipment are safely aboard before departure.

8:00 AM — Return Cruise to Kihei

Enjoy the morning views of South Maui, Haleakalā, Kahoʻolawe, and the surrounding coastline during the return trip.

The route and timing may vary depending on:

    • Weather
    • Wind and ocean conditions
    • Vessel traffic
    • Harbor operations
    • Guest safety

Approximately 8:30 AM — Return to Kihei Boat Ramp

The crew will assist guests with disembarking and collecting their personal belongings.

Check-in: 6:15 AM Departure: Approximately 6:30 AM Return: Approximately 8:30 AM

All itinerary times are approximate except the required check-in time. Molokini is weather-dependent and cannot be guaranteed. The captain may adjust the route, timing, snorkeling location, or itinerary when necessary for safety, comfort, visibility, or changing ocean conditions.

Captains Jen, Doug, and Eleni run a genuinely special operation here. What stands out most is how naturally enthusiastic and knowledgeable they are—guests consistently mention feeling less like customers and more like they're exploring with friends who genuinely care. The intimate boat size means you're not fighting crowds, and the captains have the flexibility to visit multiple spots (often five different locations) where you'll encounter sea turtles, colorful reef fish, and during winter months, whales whose songs you can actually hear underwater. The homemade banana bread has apparently achieved legendary status. Families and first-time snorkelers appreciate the safety-focused approach and welcoming vibe, though one guest noted that beginners might need to be more vocal about requesting help once in the water, as the crew tends to give experienced swimmers more independence. The typical five-hour tours hit highlights like Molokini Crater and Turtle Town, with captains adjusting routes to avoid crowds and maximize your time in pristine waters. If you're looking for a personalized, knowledge-rich experience rather than a packed cattle-boat tour, this crew delivers consistently excellent days on the water.

So I really debated doing this. We could snorkel from shore right? Incorrect. Having someone who knows exactly where to go is invaluable. Jen and Eleni were fantastic captains and guides for the day. They have the timing down so perfectly. We got to Molokini ahead of most other boats and by the time it was getting crowded we’re headed to the back side. The turtles were incredible and we also saw an eagle ray! They got some fantastic photos which were all included with the trip.
