Master the basics of surfing during a 90-minute lesson on Isle of Palms. Learn ocean safety and how to catch your first waves with all gear provided.
Participants must be at least 8 years old.
If we have to cancel your surf lessons due to the weather or conditions, Salt Marsh Surf will keep a 25% deposit and refund the remaining 75%.

Phil and his team have built something special at IOP, delivering consistently excellent surf instruction for all ages and skill levels. First-timers routinely get up on their boards during their very first lesson, and reviewers can't stop praising Phil's patience, encouragement, and genuine teaching ability. He takes time to explain safety and technique on shore before heading into the water, then sets students up for success with just the right amount of guidance and motivation. The surf camp program gets particularly enthusiastic praise from parents. Kids come back begging for more sessions, and families appreciate the low instructor-to-camper ratio that keeps everything safe and manageable. When conditions aren't ideal for surfing, the team pivots to beach activities like crafts, games, and tidepool exploration, always keeping things fun and engaging. Our family of four (2 middle aged parents and two teen girls) had an awesome morning surfing with Philip. We had only tried surfing one other time and didn’t have a great experience so we were unsure of what we would get. No need to worry with Philip! He reached out a few days before our scheduled lesson and got our measurements for wet suits in case the water was too cold for us on the day of the lesson. This started us off on the right foot because we knew that he was thinking ahead to making sure we had the best experience possible. We started with a great overview of the ocean and wind conditions so that we could understand some of the science behind what we were doing. We then practiced our paddling and getting into a sanding position on the sand before heading off to the water! Philip made us feel extremely comfortable during the lesson with Guidance that was tailored to our different personalities and abilities. Everyone was able to get up on the board several times and Philip always made sure that we were ready for the waves that would give us the best rides. His love for the sport and the ocean was evident in everything he said and did. At the end of the lesson, we had two happy teenagers so it was money and time well spent! Highly recommend this experience.
