- Weight limit: 240 lbs per person on a kayak; two-person kayaks have a 480-lb combined maximum
- Wear comfortable clothing that can get wet and sandals or flip-flops; expect to go barefoot in the bay and walk through thick mud
- Do not use mosquito repellent containing DEET
- Do not drink or smoke during the tour; intoxicated participants will be refused
- Plan onward travel carefully, as ferry service may not run after the tour
- Expect the tour to operate in rain; it only cancels when weather is dangerous

Brighter moonlight can create light interference and make the glow less vibrant. Tours close for three days each month during the full moon, but the days leading up to it can also have heavy interference.
Vieques is separate from Puerto Rico’s main island. Reach the island by ferry or plane, and plan onward travel carefully because ferries may not run after the tour. Staying at least one night on Vieques is recommended.
