Charleston's ghost and history walking tours have earned a near-perfect reputation, largely because of the guides themselves. Jerry, Liz, Simon, Jake, and Damon Fordham come up repeatedly in glowing terms, each bringing their own storytelling style and expertise to the experience. Damon in particular stands out for his deep knowledge of Black American history in Charleston, even incorporating live music into his tours. One pattern worth noting is that repeat visitors consistently say each tour feels different, thanks to guides swapping in unique stories and details. The highlight for many is private nighttime access to the Unitarian church graveyard, which most visitors say would be difficult to visit otherwise. If you're drawn to the spooky side of history, this seems like the kind of tour that genuinely delivers on that promise rather than just checking a box.
