Willis Tower East Lobby, 232 S Franklin St, Chicago, IL 60606
Skydeck Chicago sits 1,353 feet above the city inside the Willis Tower, and it makes the perfect orientation point before stepping into the streets where Hollywood has been filming for decades. From that glass-floored perch, you can spot many of the rooftops, bridges, and boulevards that have starred in films like The Dark Knight, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Transformers, and The Untouchables. Our Chicago Movie and TV Locations Walking Tour begins on the ground, but the view from Skydeck Chicago is the cinematic context that makes every stop below feel bigger, sharper, and more familiar.
As you walk through the Loop with a local guide, you will recognize the canyons of skyscrapers that doubled as Gotham City, the riverside walkways that framed chase scenes, and the neighborhoods that have hosted everything from gritty crime dramas to feel-good comedies. The tour weaves together iconic filming spots, behind-the-scenes stories, and the kind of trivia only a true movie buff would know, all within easy reach of Skydeck Chicago. You will hear how directors used the city's bridges, elevated tracks, and lakefront to create instantly recognizable scenes, and you will see how the streets look almost exactly as they did on screen. Pairing the bird's-eye view from Skydeck Chicago with the street-level tour gives you both scales of the city, the sweeping panorama and the intimate, frame-by-frame detail.
This experience is perfect for film fans, TV lovers, families with curious kids, and travelers who want to understand Chicago through stories rather than statistics. Couples enjoy the easy pace, photographers love the angles, and first-time visitors leave with a mental map that pins favorite movies to real places. If Skydeck Chicago is already on your itinerary, this walking tour is the natural companion, turning a checklist landmark into the launchpad for a cinematic afternoon you will remember long after the credits roll.
Step out onto the 103rd floor of Skydeck Chicago and the city unfolds beneath you in every direction. On a clear day, four states come into view across Lake Michigan and the Illinois prairie. The glass-floored Ledge extends four feet beyond the building's facade, putting nothing but air between your feet and the street more than 1,300 feet below. Skydeck Chicago rewards those who look carefully, from the ribbon of the Chicago River to the distant Indiana shoreline.
