Finz Dive Center
Finz has built something really special here, and it shows in how enthusiastically divers keep coming back. What stands out immediately is the crew, especially Captain Amy and Captain Lauren, who get mentioned over and over for being not just skilled professionals but genuinely fun people to spend a day with on the water. People rave about their energy, knowledge, and personal touches like singing or rapping on the return trip, giving enthusiastic historical tours of Fort Jefferson, and even arranging to clean and dry gear afterward. The new boat, Park Shark, cuts the travel time to Dry Tortugas down to just two hours (versus the old 3-4 hours), and multiple reviewers say this trip beats taking the ferry or seaplane hands down. You get early access to the sites before crowds arrive, which creates those magical "island to ourselves" moments. Beyond the Dry Tortugas expeditions, Finz handles everything from certification dives to lobstering trips and reef diving with the same level of care. Other crew members like Nick, Dan, Mark, Josh, and Kelly also get specific shoutouts for being patient with beginners, accommodating mixed groups of divers and snorkelers, and really tailoring trips to what people want to experience. The operation has loyal customers who've been diving with them since 2016, with one couple noting they've used dive shops all over Florida, the Caribbean, and Hawaii but consider Finz the best they've encountered. Even when they had to cancel a trip due to low enrollment, they classed it up by recommending a competitor to get the customer on the water. It's a genuinely professional outfit where the team's passion for what they do is contagious.
We took the day trip to Dry Tortugas with tour of the fort and then 3 dives. The fort is impressive. The dives were amazing. Service was excellent. They got all of the equipment to the boat even our personal stuff. We put our bcd and regulator on once before we left port and from there it was full service. The help you walk to the side of the boat in gear and when you come up they had snacks and water for you while they changed over the tanks. It is a small group. We had four divers and three crew. Two of the crew were guides for us. Dry Tortugas is a two our boat ride and it can get bumpy if the conditions are rough so keep that in mind if you have back issues. Previous herniated disc or serious back issues need to pass on this trip. But for all others it is worth the cost for a once in a lifetime experience.
