HarborWalk Village in Destin sets the stage for one of the Emerald Coast's most beloved family adventures, and stepping onto its weathered boardwalk feels like sailing back to a swashbuckling era. This bustling waterfront district along Destin Harbor is lined with seafood shacks, candy shops, and souvenir stalls, but its true treasure is the Buccaneer pirate ship docked among the fishing fleet. With salty breezes rolling off the harbor and the masts of charter boats swaying in the background, HarborWalk Village offers a backdrop that turns an ordinary afternoon into a storybook voyage. It is the kind of place where the smell of sunscreen mingles with grilled shrimp, and where every kid arriving at the dock cannot help but stare wide-eyed at the towering black sails of the pirate ship waiting just ahead.
The Family Pirate Cruise aboard the Buccaneer begins right here at HarborWalk Village, where little buccaneers get their faces painted, dressed in pirate gear, and sworn in by the captain before casting off. Once the ship pulls away from HarborWalk Village, the real fun begins, with sea songs, sword fights, a treasure hunt, and water cannon battles against rival pirates lurking in the bay. Kids squeal as they spray each other across the deck, parents lean back with a cold drink from the onboard bar, and the East Pass shoreline drifts by in shades of emerald and turquoise. The return to HarborWalk Village comes with sticky fingers, damp clothes, and the kind of grins that last all the way back to the hotel.
This cruise is perfect for families with young children, grandparents traveling with grandkids, and anyone who wants a saltwater memory that feels different from the standard beach day. HarborWalk Village makes the experience easy, with plenty of parking, restaurants for a pre-cruise bite, and ice cream stands for the walk back to the car. For families chasing a little magic on the Emerald Coast, the Buccaneer at HarborWalk Village delivers a voyage your crew will be retelling for years.
This family-owned operation has been creating memorable dolphin encounters since 1994, and their experienced captains truly know where to find the action. Guests consistently rave about spotting large pods of dolphins, sometimes 20 or more, with many lucky viewers catching sight of these beautiful creatures leaping and bow riding alongside the 80-foot vessel. Captains like Pat and Scott earn special mentions for their humor, local knowledge, and dedication to making sure everyone gets a great view. The crew creates a welcoming atmosphere that guests appreciate, often going beyond the scheduled 90 minutes to enhance the experience. Families particularly love this cruise. Kids get excited feeding seagulls mid-journey, and the combination of dolphins, occasional shark sightings, and stunning sunsets keeps everyone engaged. The spacious boat accommodates groups comfortably, and reviewers mention thoughtful touches like honoring veterans and sharing the company's founding story. One heads-up: while the glass-bottom viewing is advertised, several guests note the panels are smaller than expected and don't add much to the experience. That minor detail aside, the overwhelming sentiment points to an affordable, kid-friendly adventure that delivers exactly what matters most—plenty of dolphins and lasting family memories.
