Paddle North Park Lake at night and watch the full moon rise
2 hours
Kayak, paddle, lifejacket
Explore North Park Lake after sundown on a guided full-moon paddle. Launch together after a group safety briefing, then paddle as you wait for the moon to rise above the tree line.
Previous kayaking experience is required. Paddlers must be at least 3 years old and 35 lbs; anyone under 13 must ride in a tandem kayak with an adult. Late arrivals more than 15 minutes after the start time cannot launch.
Outings run in all weather except thunderstorms unless staff cancels. If staff cancels due to weather or water conditions, you’ll be offered a full refund to the original form of payment or a reschedule. Late arrivals, no-shows, or missing departure don’t receive a refund.
Yes. Bring previous kayaking experience; this intermediate night outing does not include beginner instruction.
Wear quick-dry (non-cotton/denim) clothes and shoes that can get wet, and bring a water bottle. Bring a headlamp if you have one, and assume anything you take on the water could get wet.
Yes. Bring a non-motorized kayak in seaworthy condition; staff will inspect it before you launch. If your boat is not suitable, a rental kayak will be provided. All watercraft must have lights attached; lights are provided for Kayak Pittsburgh boats and there are some extras if you need them.

The online reservation system gets high marks for being straightforward, with payment and forms handled before arrival. Multiple families mention how helpful the team is with safety instructions, getting in and out of kayaks, and even working with guests who arrive late or have accessibility needs. The equipment quality stands out, with several reviewers noting upgraded kayaks featuring convenient additions like cup holders and dry storage. Locations range from peaceful North Park Lake (where families spot herons and tadpoles) to the exciting Three Rivers downtown area where paddlers can explore around iconic bridges. First-timers and experienced kayakers alike appreciate the thorough safety explanations and well-maintained gear. The nonprofit aspect resonates with locals who value how they make outdoor activities like kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, and snowboarding accessible to everyone. Popular time slots fill quickly, so booking ahead is recommended to avoid disappointment.
