Captain Erik and his crew consistently deliver a relaxed, well-run experience on the water. Guests frequently praise the friendly, attentive staff and the stunning views as the boat winds through Spring Lake and the Grand River before heading out onto Lake Michigan. The BYOB policy is a popular perk, and private charters get extra hands-on service from the crew, including help with food and beverages. The sunset cruise in particular draws glowing feedback, with many guests calling it a highlight of their Grand Haven visit. A couple of reviewers flagged that standing passengers on the upper deck occasionally blocked sightlines for others, so if you're after unobstructed views, grabbing a seat early and staying aware of your surroundings is worth keeping in mind. There are also a few isolated complaints about inconsistencies with child life vest availability, so if you're bringing young kids, it's worth confirming that detail directly before you arrive. Overall, the vibe here is easygoing and genuinely fun. Captain Erik is described as safety-conscious but personable, and the crew clearly takes pride in making guests feel comfortable. For the price, it's one of the more memorable ways to experience the Lake Michigan coastline.
We had such a great experience on the Big Blue’s Sunset Cruise! The captain’s expert piloting made for a smooth, enjoyable ride as we traveled across Spring Lake, the Grand River, and out onto Lake Michigan. The two-hour cruise was the perfect length—relaxing, fun, and so affordable. A special shout-out to Molly, the friendly deck hand, whose warm personality made the evening even better. Watching the sun set over Lake Michigan from the boat was truly unforgettable. Highly recommend this cruise!
