Last week my brother and I did the all day BTV Northern Shenandoah tour with Gary. Gary was a pleasure to spend the day with, and despite the off and on rain, we really got a feel for the story and the geography of these battles separated by two years. He gave a coherent chronological account, and had obviously done a lot of reconnaissance to find best viewpoints to see the sweep of events. Photographs of the characters and excellent maps were great additions. Two days later we did the Chancellorsville Battle tour, with better weather, and again with Gary. And again, he exceeded expectations, and we followed the events of the battle from start to finish, able to visualize not only what happened but how geography and personalities dictated outcomes. Gary also went the extra mile(s), as somewhat belatedly my brother, while doing pre tour research discovered that we had three direct ancestors who were present at the battle. Gary did his map research the night before, and got up early to drive around and find the spots these 3 brothers of our grandfather's grandfather would have been on different days. As two brothers were in two different cavalry regiments, this covered a lot of ground. It was special, and we really appreciate the work Gary put in. Thanks again Highly recommend this tour group, they did a great job, and I cannot imagine doing these areas on my own anymore.
