Support marine mammal rescue and conservation education on a coastal seal walk
1 hour
Up to 60 people
Binoculars, spotting scope
Explore Salisbury Beach State Reservation on an entirely outdoor seal walk with the Seacoast Science Center Marine Mammal Rescue team. The walk is conducted in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
After a brief introduction to local seal species and our Marine Mammal Rescue program, we will walk a half-mile down to the shoreline to view seals that typically haul out on the rocks near the mouth of the Merrimack River. Following federal guidelines for viewing protected marine mammals, we will maintain a safe distance of at least 150 feet away. We will have scopes and binoculars available to use; please feel free to bring your own. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the biology, ecology, and conservation of these iconic New England animals and ask our marine mammal experts questions.
Runs rain or shine. If canceled for severe weather or fewer than 6 participants, you'll be notified 24 hours in advance and may reschedule. Cancel between 1 week and 48 hours before the walk for a 50% refund. Cancellations less than 48 hours before the walk and no-shows receive no refund.
