Sailing Boston Harbor on one of these historic wooden schooners is genuinely a standout experience, and the crew is a big reason why. Captains like Fredo and Wolfgang come up repeatedly in reviews, praised for being skilled, personable, and genuinely fun to sail with. The atmosphere on board feels relaxed and social, and the crew handles everything from drink orders to history lessons about the ships with equal enthusiasm. The sunset and evening sails seem to be crowd favorites, though morning and afternoon departures get just as much love. The Pastries and Prosecco sail has its own loyal following, with some guests returning multiple times with different groups. Even travelers nervous about seasickness have noted smoother conditions than expected on the harbor. One thing worth knowing is that tours can occasionally be cancelled or rescheduled due to weather or private charters, which has frustrated a small number of travelers with fixed itineraries. That said, the overwhelming majority of guests leave raving about their time on the water. If you have flexibility in your plans and want something genuinely memorable in Boston, this is a strong choice.
My husband and I sailed on the USS Constitution turn around sail on the Liberty Star. It was fabulous. The captain (Jack) and crew (Jessie and Dashelle) were very capable and friendly. The captain did a wonderful job navigating a very busy harbor and we had wonderful views of the USS Constitution. The crew kept everyone on board safe, comfortable and entertained. I highly recommend a sail on the Liberty Star.
