I had the best time on this tour. You learn so much about the mining industry and why it was so important to Alaska. Being able to enter the old mine with our hard hats was very cool. Our guide had so much information to share about the history of mining and how it worked. He demonstrated one of the steam powered drills as well as the machine that acted like a mini bulldozer and would be used to pick up the rocks. After the mine you learn a little about the history of the buildings and see how a stamping machine worked to crush the rocks into sand. Then of course, you can pan for gold which was so much more fun than I expected. I really nice tour and I'm so glad we booked it. There is also a gift shop on sight which has an assortment of souvenirs and other items. We ended up buying some Devil's Club salve which has helped with aches and pains.
