Kelleys Island
Standing on the dock in Port Clinton, the hum of engines and the smell of lake air signal that your island adventure is about to begin. Jet Express loads passengers quickly and pulls away from the mainland with the open waters of Lake Erie stretching ahead. Within minutes, Jet Express delivers you into a world of wind-swept decks and glittering water, with Put-in-Bay or Kelleys Island growing larger on the horizon. It is one of the most effortless transitions from shore life to island life anywhere on the Great Lakes.
Getting to Put-in-Bay by ferry is half the fun, and most passengers seem to genuinely enjoy the ride. The boats are fast and comfortable, the staff consistently gets praised for being friendly and professional, and flexible scheduling, including late-night departures, makes it easy to plan your day around your own timeline rather than a rigid timetable. The crew stands out in particular. Multiple reviewers mention how welcoming and accommodating the staff are, including the ability to switch to an earlier boat when plans change. That kind of flexibility is a real plus for a day trip. Fares run a little higher than some travelers expect, so it's worth budgeting accordingly before you go. There is one review raising concerns about how a situation was handled onboard, which is worth noting, though it appears to be an isolated experience among an otherwise overwhelmingly positive track record.
Jet Express was a great way to get to Put-in-Bay. We had an amazing day on the island in great weather. We wanted to come back on an earlier boat, and they were very accommodating. Thank you, Jet Express!!
