6 hours
Guide, transport, rain gear
Hike through Tongass National Forest on a challenging guided trek to panoramic views of Mendenhall Glacier. You’ll travel by van, gear up, and tackle rocky, uneven terrain with help from your guide.
Minimum age is 10, and you must wear hiking boots with ankle support and sign a liability waiver. This tour does not trek on the glacier or go to the glacier’s edge, and time at the viewpoint depends on group pace and weather. A $250 rescue fee per client may be charged if a rescue is needed due to undisclosed medical limitations or insufficient fitness.
Cancel at least 72 hours before the scheduled tour for a full refund. Cancellations under 72 hours are non-refundable. Full refund if ABAK cancels before the trip starts due to low enrollment, unsafe weather/route conditions, clients not meeting physical requirements, or other safety issues.
You need to be in good physical shape and able to hike about 7 miles roundtrip (up to about 4 hours on the trail) on steep, rocky, slippery, uneven terrain while carrying a 10 lb backpack.
Wear sturdy hiking boots with ankle support. Bring polyester or synthetic layers, warm thick socks, and (weather dependent) sunglasses/hat and hat/gloves. You can also bring personal items like a camera, binoculars, food, and a reusable water bottle.
