Explore the mountain beyond a quick summit stop

    Duration

    4 hrs

    Includes

    Guide, transport, insurance

    Highlights

Discover Mount Wellington on a shared minibus tour with scenic stops and no hiking. Your Tasmanian guide David, trained in natural sciences at the University of Tasmania, brings the mountain's history, plants and geology into focus through local stories.

    Itinerary

    1. Meet at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre, 20 Davey Street.
    2. Take a guided scenic drive through historic Hobart and explore Cascade Gardens and its rhododendrons. View the Cascade Brewery building from 1824 and Mount Wellington.
    3. Continue through eucalyptus forests and the town of Ferntree, passing its cool-climate front gardens before arriving at The Springs.
    4. Pick up refreshments at Lost Freight Cafe halfway up the mountain and look up at Mount Wellington's cliffs and summit.
    5. Explore the mountain's history and changing weather at the Springs Hotel Site, known as the pub with no beer.
    6. Continue to the South West Viewing Platform and drive up to the Chalet. See snow gums, flowering banksia trees, a waterfall, a dolerite hut and views of Hobart.
