Pier 8 in Boothbay Harbor
Boothbay Harbor cruises don't get much more charming than this. Knowledgeable captains who narrate the journey, friendly and professional crews, and a solid lineup of trip options make this an easy recommendation for visitors. The Monhegan Island run gets consistent praise for scenic views and on-time arrivals, while the harbor tours are a great first-day activity that gives newcomers a solid feel for the area. Wildlife sightings including seals, dolphins, and bald eagles come up repeatedly, which is a nice bonus. The mackerel fishing trips are a sleeper hit, especially for families with kids. Snacks and drinks are available on most vessels, though amenities vary by boat, so it's worth checking what's included before you book. Layering up is wise regardless of the season. With a strong track record across multiple trip styles and genuinely warm staff, this is a dependable choice for getting out on the water.
My wife and I have recently enjoyed two (2) cruises with Balmy Days during August. And we hope for one (1) more in the days ahead. What strikes me most about this tour/ferry company isn't just the beautiful locations we see and visit while crusing with them. Nor the expert seamanship or professionalism of their captains and crew. But, instead, the genuine kindness when they're on the phone with you or at the ticket window-- not just with me but with other customers. On multiple occasions, I've directly witnessed their words of care directed to others by their team. I've seen firsthand the authentic interest by them in others. I've watched their going going the extra mile to assist their customers. These things clearly demonstrate that this is a family business-- operated by professionals with a passion for the people they serve each day. You can only 'fake' caring for so long. Yet they never fail at it. There's a real difference between simple patience/professionalism versus genuine empathy. Balmy Days consistently models the latter. While you'll enjoy their cruises for sure, you'll also feel as if you matter as a person in the process-- not as a transaction to be processed. At a time when this is extraordinarily rare in business, Balmy Days Cruises brings it home. Thank you for standing by this kind of ethic as a core component of your business values!
