Learn to surf in a small group with all gear included
2 hours
Surfboard, wetsuit, leash
Join an existing group surf lesson in Pismo Beach and build skills at your level. You’ll start with beach instruction, then spend most of the session in the water with your instructor.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your lesson time. Instructor gratuity is not included (clarify the suggested amount with Greetwell before booking).
If you communicate the night before (or earlier) due to a family emergency, you’ll get a full refund. If you call the morning of due to drinking too much the night before, no refund. No-call/no-show: no refund. Communicate as best you can and give notice.
Bring swimwear, sunscreen, a towel, and drinking water. Wear your swimsuit under dry clothes so you can change back after the lesson.
All equipment is included: surfboard, wetsuit, and surf leash. Surf leashes are mandatory for this lesson, and they’re provided.
Plan for about 15–20 minutes of teaching on land, about 70–90 minutes in the water, and about 15–20 minutes each for putting on and taking off your wetsuit.

Jonny and his team have created something special here in Pismo Beach. First-timers consistently rave about getting up on their boards during their very first session, which speaks volumes about the instructors' teaching abilities. The vibe is relaxed and encouraging, with coaches like Josh, Tyler, Ryley, Shane, and Molly getting specific praise for being supportive, down-to-earth, and genuinely passionate about surfing. Families love the multi-day packages, and it's common to see groups of varying skill levels all getting personalized attention during the same session. What really stands out beyond the solid instruction is the welcoming atmosphere. Students mention grabbing burgers with instructors after lessons and feeling like part of the crew rather than just customers. The flexibility and kindness shine through too, with multiple reviewers noting helpful accommodations when unexpected situations arose. Whether you're testing the waters with a single morning session or committing to the three-day package, expect to leave exhausted, maybe a bit sore, but completely hooked on the sport.
Great father/daughter vacation activity for two first-time surfers. The weather forecast was questionable but I really appreciate Sandbar letting us schedule and give it a closer look. Turned out the timing was perfect and we had an absolute blast. Robbie was very patient with our age difference and connected the dots enough to allow us each to get up and ride. We’ll get back ASAP and schedule again. Highly recommend.
