This hidden gem in Perris houses an impressive collection of over 250 locomotives and historic rolling stock spread across 800 acres, with a particular focus on Los Angeles streetcars from their golden era. Free admission makes it incredibly accessible, though guided tours are available for a small donation and come highly recommended by visitors who say the enthusiastic guides really bring the experience to life. The trolley and train rides are consistently mentioned as highlights, giving you a chance to actually experience these beautifully preserved pieces of history in motion. Families with train-loving kids seem especially drawn to this place, with the welcoming volunteer staff and hands-on experiences creating memorable visits. Plan for at least 2-3 hours to properly explore the multiple buildings and outdoor displays. The museum hosts special events throughout the year, including swap meets and open house days. While some guides know more than others about the technical details, their passion and enthusiasm more than make up for any knowledge gaps. The scavenger hunt available at the gift shop adds an extra layer of fun for those wanting a more interactive experience.
