    Itinerary

Want to discover the history, mystery and magnificence of Juneau's natural and cultural histories. Want to get some exercise while being slacked-jawed traversing though an elfin-like, old growth forest with it's ancient trees, whimsy wildflowers*, mushroom eruptions*, cushions of moss, and majestic mountain views?**

If so, I am willing, ready and able to share with you some of Juneau's treasures, and what I hope will be an unforgettable adventure while on your vacation of a lifetime.

My three-hour adventure, includes a brief tour through historic downtown with drive-by view of the:

governor's mansion (1912) state capital (1931) first and longest standing saloon in Alaska (1891) first and oldest operating hotel (1931) bronze statues of meaning to Juneau's history Front Street, one of the oldest, most historic thoroughfares in downtown Juneau. We will also travel over Basin Road, Alaska's first road, carved into the side of a mountain and nestled between a spectacular avalanche flume/waterfall and the ever-important Gold Creek. This 1.5 mile road ends with peek-a-boo view of what's left of the historic Perseverance Mine (1886 - 1943), and a view of Silverbow Basin where gold was discovered in 1880.

Next we will travel over the largest expansion bridge in Southeast Alaska to Douglas Island. On our way to the Rainforest Trail we will stop for a distant view of the renowned Mendenhall Glacier. And, if we are lucky, we may spot a whale or other marine mammals. No promise of whales, but I am optimistic.

The Rainforest Trail is a winding mile long, gently graded path looping through a portion of Juneau's old-growth forest and transitions to a rocky beach offering "forever views" of the Chilkat and Coastal mountains.*

This is an easy to moderate walk/hike depending on one's physical fitness. Layers, rain gear, and hiking or other sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Snacks and water will be provided.
